This is a town that knows cars. There’s a bloke down the road from us who owns some legendary vintage vehicles. I’ve seen quite a few old Beetles chugging about as well. And once a year the Bentley People come to Cradock and park their venerables in Market Street, next to the old Tuishuise.

But the circus-coloured adapted old Combi owned by Rod Dry of the Silver Creek Mountain Band is the current eye-catcher in Cradock. We urged them to go for powder blue, but other heads prevailed and well, we’re growing to love it. I keep wanting to order candy floss from Shuggy at the back, and ask the old guy with the beard where the trained angora goats live. But never mind. It’s gonna flash across South Africa like an angry lightbulb. Soon.
